エリザベス女王（92）が、ロンドン西部のサイエンス・ミュージアムを訪れた際、王室の公式インスタグラムに初めて投稿した。女王がインフルエンサーになる日も近いかもしれない。「ミラー」紙ほか各紙が報じた。

　女王が投稿したのは、女王の高祖父にあたるアルバート公に宛てられた1843年の手紙。送り主はコンピューターの発展のパイオニアと伝えられる英数学者のチャールズ・バベッジで、「アナリスティック・エンジン」という機械について書かれたものだという。投稿はこれらの説明に続けて、「子供たちのコンピューター・コーディングの取り組みについて学べたことに喜びを感じ、またテクノロジーやイノベーションなど、次世代の発明家に常にインスピレーションを与えてきたこの博物館での投稿はふさわしいことのように思われます」と女王の感想が述べられ、最後に「エリザベス R」と名前で締めくくった。この投稿にインスタ・ユーザーは湧き、27万を超えるいいねが付いた。

　ちなみに女王が初ツイートをしたのも同館から。2014年、「インフォメーション・エイジ」という新しい展示室のオープニングで訪問した時だった。

Today, as I visit the Science Museum I was interested to discover a letter from the Royal Archives, written in 1843 to my great-great-grandfather Prince Albert. Charles Babbage, credited as the world’s first computer pioneer, designed the “Difference Engine”, of which Prince Albert had the opportunity to see a prototype in July 1843. In the letter, Babbage told Queen Victoria and Prince Albert about his invention the “Analytical Engine” upon which the first computer programmes were created by Ada Lovelace, a daughter of Lord Byron. Today, I had the pleasure of learning about children’s computer coding initiatives and it seems fitting to me that I publish this Instagram post, at the Science Museum which has long championed technology, innovation and inspired the next generation of inventors.
